    JIMEI X JIMEI

    CURATED BY PAN GE

A hundred years ago, “Jiageng architecture” was an important example of modern transformation of traditional buildings in China, combining western knowhow with the local architectural traditions of southern Fujian. Today, Jimei, with its rich historical and cultural heritage, faces urban changes brought about by the developments of the new era, by remaining strongly attached to the inheritance of “Jiageng architecture” and at the same time opening up new architectural facets to meet the demands of urban expansion. In its inheritance of traditional architecture and construction of new cities, Jimei demonstrates its distinctive urban characteristics.

Here, two photographers who have lived in Jimei for decades are exhibited. In their works, one records the harmony of the traditional architecture and local residents of the Jimei educational area. It is the place where you still want to come back and look at again, no matter how far you have gone. In the other, the camera is pointed instead at the modern buildings of Xinglin Bay’s operational zone, the new urban landscape, new forms of beauty, and the infinite possibilities.
